Claire is a Leadership Coach and Managing Director of Pivotal Moment Transitions. Her main focus is the personal and professional development of managers and leaders, with a particular interest in support during times of change. Claire’s varied commercial experience, incisive mind and highly engaging style, enable her to put clients at ease and help them focus quickly on important areas of development.
Claire specialises in 'Interactional Intelligence' and the effects that our conversations and behaviour have on our brains and those of others around us. She helps individuals and organisations understand this neuroscience to help them build successful businesses based on trust and 'power with', rather than 'power over' interactions.
Claire’s interventions are designed to help her clients understand how their approaches, preferences and behaviours impact their effectiveness in their professional lives. This raises their awareness of areas of strength, as well as neurological patterns that stand in the way of their performing to their potential. Claire uses a coaching model of high support, high challenge and systems thinking to facilitate clients taking intelligent and creative steps to perform at their best, be true to themselves and realise their goals and aspirations. She believes that development should be an enjoyable and fulfilling process and that humour is a vital ingredient in making this happen.
Claire uses a variety of Leadership and Team diagnostics to help leaders understand themselves and others better. These are powerful tools that help leaders pinpoint what is working for them and what they may need to develop for continued success as they rise further in their careers. Claire is accredited in the interpretation and feedback of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Hogan 'Bright Side', 'Dark Side' and 'Inside' and the Team Management Index™. She also uses the Leadership Tensions Questionnaire, developed by Bridget Farrands and Richard Elsner, co-authors of 'Leadership Transitions - How business leaders take charge in new roles', to help leaders stepping into new roles or responsibilities to get clear on their preferred leadership approaches, and where they may need to expand upon these to become most effective in a new context.
Claire also carries out psychometric assessment for companies seeking an indication of the leadership qualities and style of candidates for senior leadership and management roles. Her work in this area provides valuable insights and information that can help companies avoid costly mistakes in senior-level recruitment processes and identify the best candidate for the role.
Claire developed her interest in performance and the impact of an individual’s presence and behaviour during her degree in French and Drama at the University of Bristol. She furthered her understanding of commercial reputation through a post graduate Certificate in Public Relations Management at the University of Stirling. Her career in diverse sectors and cultures has equipped Claire with knowledge and experience of a wide range of business strategies, practices and systems. She has formal coach training, with a diploma in coaching from the Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC) and is also accredited in the Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching process, and the Marshall Goldsmith Global Leader of the Future 360o Assessment. Claire began her career in commercial management in Marks & Spencer in the mid-1980's and over the past 30 years has worked in, or as a consultant/specialist for, a diverse range of companies from 2-person start-ups to large multinationals. These include Berlitz, International Distillers and Vintners, ABB and TOTAL. Here she ran a specialised public relations programme on behalf of TOTAL’s global CEO and, subsequently, the Expatriation activities for the company in the UK. In addition to the UK, Claire loves to travel and has lived and worked in France, Spain, Denmark, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates and is fluent in French. She has been working in the field of Leadership Development since 2007.
